Pakistan itineraries / independent planning
This compact city route begins in Islamabad and ends in Lahore. It pairs one full capital day with an intercity transfer and a concentrated Lahore heritage day. Start in Islamabad before day 1 and depart Lahore after day 3, or add nights at either end if your international flight times demand it.

Between the destinations
On the road
The journey deserves room of its own. These planning allowances help you leave time for a meal, a view and a calm arrival. They are estimates, not live road reports or guaranteed arrival times.
Islamabad → Lahore
Choose a reputable licensed driver or coach operator, plan a motorway-service break and allow time for hotel check-in. Keep the evening to food and a short walk near your base.
Lahore heritage cluster
Group Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and the Walled City together. Stop for tea or lunch within the neighbourhood; save Shalamar Gardens for an extended stay rather than crossing the city repeatedly.

The details that make it work
Before you book this route
What the duration includes
The three-day plan links an Islamabad day with a transfer and one Lahore heritage day. It is deliberately compact. Add an arrival night if your international flight lands late, and add a departure night if the final flight leaves before you can explore.
Bases and transport
For comfort, choose the intercity operator first and then accommodation that works with the arrival and departure points. Allow for luggage, city traffic and a proper break. Ask the hotel to store bags if the room is not ready.
Where to add or remove time
Spend the Lahore day around one historic cluster. Shalamar Gardens, the museum or a wider food-focused programme fit better with another night. Check the day’s opening arrangements, prayer times and seasonal conditions before setting a precise order.
Everyday arrangements
Ask your accommodation about cash or card payment, mobile coverage for your network, Wi-Fi and power back-up. Carry a cash contingency and keep essential addresses offline. Tell hosts about dietary needs before remote stays; confirm meal availability rather than assuming restaurants will be nearby. For every quote, ask about entry tickets, guides, meals, fuel and cancellation terms.
Visit times and programme choices are editorial planning suggestions, not fixed departures or live access reports. Use the trip budget tool with current provider quotes and read quieter discoveries for possible extensions.

Planning notes
Best time to consider
Cities are visitable in many months; heat, rain, air quality and religious calendars affect walking comfort and opening hours. Check the forecast and current conditions.
Getting between stops
Give Islamabad–Lahore most of day 2 by prearranged licensed transport. Current UK advice cautions against using the railway network; check live advice before selecting a transport mode.
What to budget for
Compare reputable intercity transport, two city hotels, site entries, a local heritage guide and meals.
A sensible adjustment
With only three days, focus on coherent neighbourhoods rather than a long checklist. Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque are a natural pairing.
