Editorial Policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026

Pakistan Discoveries is an independent travel publication founded by Graham Plowright and Aiden Ali. This policy sets out the standards we apply to our destination guides, itineraries, stories, planning resources and contributions.

Our promise: useful travel information, honest recommendations and a respectful view of Pakistan and the people who call it home.

1. Our editorial mission

We help readers explore Pakistan through practical destination knowledge, cultural insight and thoughtful travel planning. We aim to reflect the country’s regional diversity, everyday life and hospitality alongside its landscapes and heritage. Inspiration must be accompanied by useful context, including limitations, access considerations and uncertainty.

2. Editorial independence

Editorial decisions are based on relevance, accuracy and usefulness to readers. Advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners do not buy favourable editorial coverage or control our conclusions. Payment, complimentary hospitality or an introduction does not guarantee a recommendation, ranking or positive review.

Providers may be asked to confirm factual details. That does not give them authority to approve our opinions or remove fair criticism. Relevant personal or business interests must be disclosed to the founders and, where they affect a reader’s assessment, alongside the content.

3. Founders and editorial oversight

Graham Plowright and Aiden Ali share responsibility for editorial oversight, commissioning, review and the application of this policy. We identify authors and contributors where appropriate and distinguish their personal experiences from the publication’s wider research.

Our professional backgrounds and travel experience inform our approach, but do not make us authorities on every destination or specialist subject. We seek relevant expertise where a topic requires it and make research limitations clear.

4. First-hand experience and research

Our content draws on first-hand journeys, desk research, official information, local knowledge and contributor accounts. We distinguish personal experience from researched suggestions and identify the basis of a recommendation where that distinction matters.

Inclusion on the website does not mean that either founder has visited a destination, inspected a hotel, travelled a route or assessed an operator. A researched itinerary is a planning suggestion, not evidence that its complete route has been tested. Local contacts and provider statements are useful sources, but are not automatically independent verification.

5. Accuracy, verification and sources

We prioritise authoritative sources for practical claims, including relevant government bodies, transport providers, heritage organisations and other organisations responsible for the information. We compare sources where appropriate, check significant claims and attribute quotations, specialist advice and material drawn from others.

Where sources conflict or confirmation is unavailable, we explain the uncertainty, qualify the claim or omit it. We do not invent quotations, sources, qualifications or first-hand experiences. Estimates of costs, distances, journey times and seasonal access should be presented as estimates, with context rather than false precision.

6. Travel safety and changing conditions

Our travel content supports planning; it is not a live safety assessment or a guarantee that a journey is suitable or accessible. We consider relevant official travel advice when preparing safety-related guidance and direct readers to current authoritative information, including the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s Pakistan travel advice.

Visa rules, local permissions, security restrictions, weather, transport schedules and road conditions can change. Mountain routes may be affected by snow, landslides, flooding, closures and limited communications. We distinguish seasonal expectations from confirmed current access and avoid presenting illustrative route maps as live navigation.

Readers should check current official advice, entry requirements, local conditions and insurance cover before booking and again before departure. Specialist medical, altitude, trekking or security questions require advice from appropriately qualified professionals. Community tips and operator assurances do not replace these checks.

7. Photography, permissions and licences

We use original photography and images supplied with permission or under an appropriate licence. Contributors must have the rights to supply their work. Required attribution, licence links and modification notices must be retained in the location and form required by the licence; a central credit register does not replace image-level attribution where that is required.

An image may illustrate a region or subject without depicting the exact hotel, route or activity discussed. We make that distinction clear where it could mislead readers. Cropping and ordinary tonal adjustments must not materially misrepresent a place, person or experience. We respect privacy and consent, particularly for children and people in sensitive circumstances.

The existing photography credit register accompanies this policy and remains available below the main text.

8. AI transparency and human responsibility

AI tools may assist with organisation, drafting, editing or other production tasks. Their outputs must be reviewed and checked before publication; responsibility remains with the founders and relevant contributors. AI is not a factual source or evidence of personal travel experience.

We do not use AI to fabricate journeys, quotations, interviews, sources or reviews. Destination photography should show real places and people. AI-generated illustrations, conceptual visuals or materially synthetic images must be clearly identified where used and must never be presented as documentary photography. Where AI use materially affects how readers should interpret a feature, it should be explained on that page.

9. Contributors and local perspectives

We welcome original work from writers, photographers, travellers and people living in Pakistan. Contributors must provide accurate accounts, identify research and sources, disclose relevant affiliations or benefits, and obtain necessary permissions for text, images and quotations.

We do not accept plagiarism, invented experiences, undisclosed promotional copy or discriminatory content. We may request supporting information and edit submissions for accuracy, clarity, length and consistency. Publication rights and attribution should be agreed before publication. Local perspectives should be represented with context and respect, without suggesting that one person speaks for an entire community. See our Write for Us page for contribution enquiries.

10. Commercial partnerships and disclosures

Sponsored articles, advertising, paid directory listings, affiliate relationships, complimentary stays and hosted experiences must be clearly disclosed where relevant. Disclosures should be visible near the beginning of sponsored content or close to the recommendation or link concerned, rather than relying solely on a general policy.

Paid visibility must be distinguishable from independent editorial selection. A directory entry or commercial relationship does not amount to accreditation, a safety assessment or a guarantee of service. Where provider details have not been independently verified, we make that limitation clear.

Affiliate links may earn Pakistan Discoveries a commission on qualifying bookings or purchases. Further information appears in our Affiliate Disclosure. Bookings are made with the external provider under its own terms; Pakistan Discoveries is an independent information publication and does not operate the tours it describes.

11. Responsible tourism and representation

We encourage travel that respects local communities, cultural and religious customs, livelihoods, heritage, wildlife and the environment. Our content should support informed choices about local services, waste reduction, sensitive landscapes, photography and animal welfare.

We avoid stereotypes, sensationalism and claims that a destination is untouched or empty of people. We consider whether publicising a location could expose a fragile site or community to harm, and may limit precise access details where appropriate. Responsible tourism claims should be supported by specific evidence rather than promotional language.

12. Community content and reader contributions

Reader tips, comments, travel-companion posts and discussion-group messages are personal contributions unless independently checked. Publication or moderation does not verify a contributor’s identity, expertise, service or proposed journey.

Community participation must be respectful and relevant. Harassment, discrimination, misleading promotion and disclosure of another person’s private information are unacceptable. Discussion groups are not emergency, booking or traveller-vetting services. Readers should independently assess advice and arrangements, and understand the platform’s privacy implications before joining. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.

13. Corrections, reviews and contact

Report factual errors, outdated information, missing image credits or other editorial concerns to hello@pakistandiscoveries.com. Please include the page URL, the information concerned and any supporting evidence. Graham Plowright and Aiden Ali oversee the review of editorial concerns.

We assess reports, check the evidence and correct confirmed errors. Potentially misleading or safety-sensitive information may be qualified or removed while it is reviewed. Material factual corrections should carry a clear note on the affected page explaining what changed; spelling, formatting and minor clarifications may be corrected without a notice.

Content is reviewed as new information becomes available, with particular attention to practical details that change. A review or update date records editorial work and does not guarantee that every detail remains current. This policy will also be reviewed as the publication develops.
