Cookie Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
This policy explains how Pakistan Discoveries uses cookies and similar browser storage, what is optional, and how you can change your choices. Pakistan Discoveries was founded by Graham Plowright and Aiden Ali.
1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We also use local storage to remember choices and provide features such as My trip. Local storage is kept in your browser and is different from a cookie, but it can still store information on your device. This policy covers both, as well as relevant browser caching.
2. Essential storage and requested features
We remember your cookie choice so you are not asked on every page. When you use My trip, browser storage holds the places you save, private notes and day assignments needed for that feature. Rejecting analytics does not disable these trip tools. WordPress may also use cookies for sign-in, security and authenticated sessions when you use an account; these are separate from optional visitor analytics.
Browser storage is specific to a browser and device. It may be unavailable in restricted browsing modes or cleared by your browser. Download a copy of a trip you want to keep.
3. Optional Google Analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4, supplied by Google, to understand which pages and planning tools people use. The Google analytics tag is held back until you select Accept analytics cookies, or a valid acceptance has already been saved in this browser. If you select Reject optional cookies, that tag stays unloaded on subsequent page loads.
Analytics can include page views, browser and device information, approximate location and interactions with planning tools, partner links, newsletter forms and WhatsApp links. A submission attempt is different from a successful newsletter signup. Our custom engagement events exclude form contents, email addresses and private trip notes. Signed-in administrators are excluded from our custom engagement events.
Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation remain denied in our consent settings. Accepting analytics is not permission for advertising tracking. Google explains its processing in Google’s Privacy Policy and its cookie use in Google’s cookie information. See our Privacy Policy for the wider handling of personal information.
4. Storage names, providers and duration
The following entries describe the consent and trip storage identified in our current implementation, together with the standard cookies used by our configured Google Analytics service. Browser settings can shorten storage lifetimes.
pd-measurement-v1— Pakistan Discoveries- Local storage containing your analytics choice and the time it was made. The choice is treated as valid for up to 180 days; after that we ask again. Local storage has no automatic browser expiry, so the old entry can remain until overwritten or cleared, although it no longer authorises analytics.
pd-trip-v1— Pakistan Discoveries- Local storage for saved places and private notes. It has no fixed automatic expiry and remains until removed through the trip tool, overwritten, or cleared through browser site-data settings.
pd-trip-days-v1— Pakistan Discoveries- Local storage for day assignments in My trip. It has no fixed automatic expiry. Clearing the site’s local storage removes it.
pd-planner-introduction-v1— Pakistan Discoveries- Session storage for a route introduction you choose to carry from the journey planner to local-partner pages. It is treated as valid for up to two hours. The underlying session-storage entry can remain until the tab session ends or you clear site data.
_gaand_ga_*— Google Analytics- Optional first-party cookies used to distinguish browsers and maintain analytics session information after acceptance. Google’s standard lifetime is up to two years and can be refreshed by use, subject to configuration and browser limits. Our separate consent choice expires after 180 days. When you reject or withdraw analytics, our controls attempt to remove accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies.
- WordPress sign-in and security cookies — Pakistan Discoveries / WordPress
- Used when you sign in or access authenticated features, rather than for ordinary anonymous browsing analytics. Their duration depends on the session and sign-in options; choosing Remember Me can extend a sign-in. Signing out ends the authenticated session.
- Browser support storage and offline cache — WordPress / Pakistan Discoveries
- WordPress may cache emoji-support checks in session storage, and the site’s web-app functionality may cache site resources for performance or offline access. These are separate from analytics. Their retention depends on the browser, tab session and cache updates; browser site-data controls can remove them.
Features on other pages can also remember choices you make. We review this information when the site’s storage or services change. This list does not describe cookies used by an external website after you follow a link.
5. Accepting, rejecting and changing your choice
The banner offers Reject optional cookies and Accept analytics cookies with matching prominence. Browsing, scrolling or leaving the banner unanswered does not count as acceptance. Only analytics is offered as an optional purpose in these controls.
Open Cookie settings in the footer whenever you want to change your choice. To withdraw analytics consent, select Reject optional cookies. We update the consent setting, attempt to remove accessible analytics cookies and reload the page so the analytics tag is no longer loaded. This does not delete information already received by Google or remove your saved trip.
Your choice applies to this browser and device. If you clear site data, use another browser or device, or your choice becomes older than 180 days, you may be asked again. If browser storage is blocked, we may be unable to remember your choice for later visits.
6. External links, maps, videos and bookings
External services, including Google Maps, social networks, WhatsApp and booking or affiliate partners, have their own privacy and cookie arrangements. Opening a link takes you to that provider. Our analytics choice does not control cookies on their websites. Sharing a My trip link includes place names, guide links and day numbers; private notes are excluded from that share link.
Where embedded third-party content is used, its storage and consent requirements depend on the provider and how it is implemented. Permission for our analytics does not automatically grant permission for unrelated advertising or third-party tracking.
7. Browser controls and saved-trip privacy
You can use your browser’s privacy settings to review, block or clear cookies and other site data. Clearing all Pakistan Discoveries site data also removes your stored cookie choice and locally saved trip information. Removing cookies alone may leave local storage intact, so check the browser’s site-data controls if you want to erase saved notes or day assignments.
Other people using the same browser profile may be able to see locally saved trip information. Avoid storing sensitive information in trip notes on a shared device.
8. Updates and contact
We update this policy when the services or storage we use change. If we introduce a new optional purpose that requires consent, we will seek the appropriate choice before using it. For questions about cookies or privacy, contact hello@pakistandiscoveries.com.
