Your first-time Pakistan itinerary
Day 1: Arrive and settle in
Meet your prearranged driver and travel straight to your hotel. Leave the rest of the day free to recover, with a simple meal close to your base. Ask your host about cash access, mobile connectivity and the next day’s arrangements. A short familiarisation outing is optional; a late arrival should not mean missing a prepaid excursion.
Overnight: Islamabad.
Day 2: Get your bearings in Islamabad
Start with a locally guided introduction to Faisal Mosque, working around worship and visitor access. Continue to the Pakistan Monument if you feel ready for a second stop. Take time to discuss respectful dress and photography with your guide. Keep the afternoon flexible so you can adjust to the climate and pace before adding more sightseeing.
Overnight: Islamabad.
Day 3: Culture, food and everyday life
Make Lok Virsa the main cultural visit, checking its opening day before you go. Pair it with a relaxed visit to Saidpur Village if conditions and your energy allow. Ask your guide to introduce regional foods in a reputable restaurant, explaining any vegetarian or other dietary requirements clearly. Return for a free evening rather than booking an early-to-late programme.
Overnight: Islamabad.
Day 4: Choose Taxila or a quieter capital day
For archaeology, arrange a guided excursion to Taxila with time for the museum and a small selection of sites. If you prefer less travel, stay in Islamabad for a museum, café or bookshop visit agreed with your host. Both choices fit the route: this is a useful opportunity to shape the journey around your interests rather than keep up with a group.
Overnight: Islamabad.
Day 5: Transfer to Lahore in daylight
Take a prebooked private transfer with agreed comfort stops. Allow for traffic and check-in time rather than treating arrival as the start of a full sightseeing day. After settling into your hotel, have dinner nearby and discuss the walking involved in the next two days. Staying in one Lahore base for five nights makes the second half feel more settled.
Overnight: Lahore.
Day 6: Lahore’s landmark buildings
Visit Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque with a guide who can connect their architecture and history. Check access and prayer times, and agree breaks in advance if you find heat or long periods of standing tiring. Keep the remainder of the day free for lunch and rest. A thoughtfully paced visit is more rewarding than adding several distant monuments.
Overnight: Lahore.
Day 7: A gentle Walled City walk
Explore a manageable part of the Walled City, including Wazir Khan Mosque when visitor arrangements permit. Agree a short walking route with places to pause, and arrange a convenient pickup point. Leave room to watch craftspeople at work and ask before taking portraits. Busy lanes can be intense, so the walk can be shortened without affecting the wider itinerary.
Overnight: Lahore.
Day 8: Gardens and a cooking encounter
Choose Shalimar Gardens for a change of setting, subject to access. Later, arrange a small cooking experience with a suitable host if one is available. Request vegetarian options or other dietary adjustments before booking, and discuss the kitchen setup rather than assuming every workshop can accommodate them. A restaurant meal is an easy alternative if a session cannot be arranged.
Overnight: Lahore.
Day 9: Make Lahore your own
Keep your last full day for the part of the city you have enjoyed most: a museum, a prearranged studio visit or a quiet café and bookshop outing. Book only what needs advance notice and leave the rest open. This day can also absorb a museum closure or missed visit earlier in the week. Pack without a late-night excursion before departure.
Overnight: Lahore.
Day 10: Depart from Lahore
Arrange the airport transfer around your flight and check-in requirements, with a traffic allowance agreed locally. Keep essential sightseeing out of the departure day. Booking arrival into Islamabad and departure from Lahore can avoid retracing the route; compare it with a return flight and the cost of an extra transfer before deciding.
Overnight: Departure from Lahore.
